PRODUCT OVERVIEW:

The AF257 Series is the top of the line photoluminescent exit sign manufactured by Greentorch. The low profile aluminum body provides a flush, appealing, and durable look while the face of the sign features a photoluminescent, glow-in-the-dark background and green letters. Manufactured from 100% recycled aluminum, this model is eco-friendly and can be fully recycled, a benefit for buildings seeking sustainable design solutions. Made in the USA.

The Architectural Frame for the AF257 is designed to accommodate single and double sided applications with three different mounting options. The AF257 can be back, side, or ceiling mounted onto drywall, cement, and other normal installation surfaces. The AF frame Is available in a variety of custom finishes including: Antique Bronze, Antique Copper, Antique Nickel, Bright Brass, Clear Coat, Candy Apple, Matte Black, Opulent White, and Polished Nickel. Custom color finishes available upon request for additional charge

CONSTRUCTION: The AF2575 exit sign face and frame are constructed of 99% aluminum. Greentorch uses the highest-grade industrial photoluminescent pigment.

ILLUMINATION:

Non-electrical photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark technology utilizes ambient lighting to charge and illuminates without dependence on electrical backup during an emergency. The AF257 features a 75 foot UL Listed viewing distance with minimal maintenance (occasional dusting) during its 25+ year life expectancy.

Minimum 5 foot-candle (54 lux) external unfiltered light source (fluorescent, metal halide, or mercury vapor illumination, etc.) must be present on the sign face at all times of building occupancy.

INSTALLATION: Installs easily with multiple framing options, hardware included. Suitable for both high and low level applications.

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS: None, the AF257 photoluminescent technology makes it non-electrical.

CODE COMPLIANCE: The AF257 is UL924 Listed and compliant with a wide range of codes and standards including the following: DIN 67510-1, ISO/CD 15370, ASTM 162, ASTM 662, ASTM E 2072-00, NFPA Life Safety Code 101, ICC, IBC, 1998 California Building Code and Fire Code.

Question : Are non-electrical signs bright enough?
Answer : Both Tritium and Photoluminescent Exit signs are subject to visibility tests at UL. Signs bearing the UL listed mark meet or exceed the minimum requirements as set forth by UL, which are accepted by NFPA 101 Life Safety and are accepted by building codes including IBC. They are bright enough to pass the visibility tests. Are they bright enough to see through a smoke filled room? No sign is able to been seen through smoke, including electrical signs. In order to achieve a safe exit passage in smokey situations, low level exit signs are required.
Question : How do I configure the arrows for my sign?
Answer : Many signs come with the ability to set the arrows to your preference at the time of installation. This is called 'infield' applicable arrows. Almost all signs come with field applicable arrows. Here is how they differ. thermoplastic signs have pop-out arrows that can be removed or added to your choice. Cast-Aluminum signs have knock-outs. knock-outs are where we indent the back side of the face plate with a cut in the shape of arrows requiring the tap of a screw driver or hammer to 'knock' them all the way out. It is difficult to add back knocked-out arrows because the seams are exposed. It can be done, but it looks nicer when you are accurate. Self-luminous and photoluminescent signs use stencils and/or adhesive arrows. The adhesive arrows can only be applied once. You can remove them after application but the y are designed for permanent adhesion. The stencils can be popped out. Edge-lit exit signs can have the arrows pre-specified, adhesive, or static. Our signs use either static or pre-configured in general, as the panels for edge-lits are prone to smudges and fingerprints. Our signs look great because our chevrons are designed for easy and clean installation, minus the smudges.
Question : How much light does the face of a photoluminescent exit sign for it to function correctly?
Answer : The face of the photoluminescent sign needs 5 foot candles, which is not a lot of light. To make sure you have 5 foot candles, take a light meter and use it in the area in which the exit sign is going to be placed. 5 foot candles of light must be on the face of the sign at all times when the building is occupied.
