PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The ALE Series Edge Lit has been developed with style, ease of installation, and dependability in mind. Utilizing high-output indirect LED technology, the ALE provides a recessed or surface mounted edge-lit EXIT sign with excellent light distribution. The ALE series can be wall/ceiling recessed, or surface mounted. End mount configurations are also available. The ALE Series features universal infield applicable chevron arrows. The ALE Series is available in single and double face models. Operates using either 120 or 277v AC power. Nickel-Cadmium battery backup option provides a minimum 90 minutes of emergency operation. The ALE Series with battery backup comes with a LED indicated push-to-test button. Options include: dual circuit, audible alarm, and visual alarm.

CONSTRUCTION: The ALE Series Edge Lit Exit Sign housing is constructed of a 20 gauge steel extrusion finished in a choice of white, bronze, or brushed aluminum. All models utilize acrylic exit panels with etched letter edges for superior visibility. Double face model panels are supplied with a mirrored Mylar background and single face model panels are available with a clear, white, or Mylar background.

ILLUMINATION: High output red or green LEDs provide superior brightness and uniformity with an expected service life of 8-10 years. Energy consumption is less than 3 watts for AC only or less than 5 watts for battery backup units.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: The ALE Series uses premium grade, sealed maintenance free nickel-cadmium battery to provide many years of dependable service. The battery backup provides a minimum 90 minutes of emergency operation.

Question : Does this exit sign plug-in to a wall outlet?
Answer : No. LED and other types of electrical exit signs have to be hard-wired into your electrical system. Electrical exit signs must be hard-wired to be building and fire code compliant. Question : How do I know if this exit sign is approved for use in my city/county/state?
Answer : The UL listing (Underwriters Laboratories) for of our exit signs ensures that these signs are code compliant. UL tests our exit signs and then gives their approval. This approval comes in the form of a listing. As long as your exit sign is UL listed it will work for your jurisdiction. Two exceptions exist: New York City and Chicago, which have their own exit sign specifications in addition to the UL listing.
Question : What is and do I need the battery backup option?
Answer : The battery backup option provides emergency battery power to illuminate your exit sign or emergency light in case of a fire, earthquake, or other emergency that causes a power outage. You must have the battery backup model if you DO NOT have a generator that provides emergency power to your facility.

Question : How do the “EXIT” letters on the Edge-Lit types of exit signs illuminate?
Answer : The light source is LED and is contained within the housing (surface or recessed). The LEDs are on a strip that is aligned with the top of the acrylic EXIT panel. The light from the LED strip shoots through acrylic panel, illuminating the word EXIT.
