PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The ESS series of emergency lighting units offers durable construction and architectural design. The ESS housing is constructed from durable 20 gauge steel and finished in a white powder coat. The front access panel is architecturally curved and hinged for trouble-free installation. Front mount configuration is standard. Front and side mount configurations are available. Universal mounting pattern and conduit knock-outs allow for easy field installation.

CONSTRUCTION: The ESS is constructed from a solid and durable 20 gauge steel housing. The ESS is supplied standard in a durable white powder coat, baked finish. Other colors are available, including custom color matching, please specify. The ESS series is normally supplied with two front mounted Par36 style heads. Smaller Par18 style heads are optional. The ESS can be configured with front, side or top mounted heads, please specify when ordering. Both lamp head styles are constructed of high impact thermoplastic in a color matching the finish of the cabinet (white is standard). Both head types feature a unique twist locking collar that securely holds the lens and facilitates quick and easy re-lamping.

ILLUMINATION: The ESS series is normally supplied with two front mounted Par36 style heads. BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: The ESS series is designed with maintenance free, sealed valve regulated lead acid battery that provides a minimum emergency duration of 90 minutes (for the listed rating). Recharge time of the battery is twenty-four hours. The maximum working temperature is 50 C.

INSTALLATION: The ESS series is suitable for surface wall or ceiling and pendant mounting. The universal mounting pattern stamped into the back of the unit allows for direct mounting to various conduit boxes. Key hole slots are also provided for additional mounting possibilities. Stamped conduit knockouts are supplied standard on all ESS units, providing the widest range of options for AC power source connection. Remote lamp loads are connected to the emergency power supply with sturdy magnum terminal connectors. These connectors allow for a large gauge of wire to be used increasing the flexibility of installation.

Question : What is and do I need the battery backup option for my emergency light?
Answer : The battery backup option provides power to your emergency lights in case of a fire, earthquake, or other emergency that causes a power outage. You must have the battery backup model if you DO NOT have a generator that provides power to your facility in emergency circumstances.
Question : When do emergency lights come on?
Answer : Emergency lights turn on when power is lost to the facility. When equipped with a battery backup or supplied with electricity from a generator, Greentorch emergency lights will operate for a minimum of 90 minutes in emergency situations.
Question : Does this emergency light plug-in to a wall outlet?
Answer : No. Emergency lights have to be hard-wired into your electrical system to be building and fire code compliant. If you are looking for a 100% battery operated emergency light it does not exist because it is impossible to charge the battery for the light without a source of electricity. Batteries in emergency lights have a trickle charge, which means the battery uses a minute amount of electricity to stay charged incase of an emergency power outage.
Question : What does 120/277v mean?
Answer : 120/277 refers to the line voltage that the emergency light can operate on. 120 refers to residential and small commercial line voltage while 220 refers to commercial and office building line voltage. The main point is that our emergency lights will work in either situation so you don’t need to worry about the functionality. We recommend using a licensed electrician or maintenance professional to install the signs.
Question : Are there emergency lights with batteries that operate longer than 90 minutes in emergency power mode?
Answer : Yes, there are. The higher the wattage of the emergency lighting unit the longer the unit will operate in emergency power mode (while keeping the lamp head wattage constant). Please see our industrial line of emergency lights, which come with large batteries (up to 400 watts).
Question : What is remote head capability?
Answer : Remote head capability means that the emergency lighting unit has been equipped with a battery that is powerful enough to supply power remotely to individual lamp heads. The larger the battery, the more remote heads a unit can handle.
