Product Characteristics

PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The Greentorch Exit Route signs can ship same day for standard color options so that you can meet code compliance quickly. See the GT-TAC-EX1 for our basic Braille Exit and To Exit signs. These signs have a non-glare finish with easy to read, raised tactile lettering. We use raised Grade 2 Braille, required in California. Made locally in the United States, Greentorch Braille signs are made to the highest quality standards for use in normal indoor applications.

INSTALLATION: All Greentorch Braille signs come with double sided epoxy, a strong mounting adhesive, for easy peel and stick mounting that will withstand normal wear and tear. Signs should be mounted on the latch side of a door and should be 60 inches from center line of the sign to the finished floor.

CODE COMPLIANCE: Braille signs comply with ADA, California Building Code Section 1003.2.8.6 and ICC/ANSI A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities. These signs use Grade Two Braille, suitable for use in California and across the United States.

Question : Is Tritium Dangerous and can I have them in my facility? What happens if the sign gets broken?
Answer : This is a common question. I suppose any object can be dangerous depending on how far from you deviate from its intended and recommended use. If the nature of your question is to determine risk to health, then consider that the tritium is an extremely low level radioactive device. The radioactivity is so low that the decaying betarays could not penetrate a standard piece of paper. The material in our exit signs are in a gas form, sealed within borosillicate tubes, and housed in a tray that is dropped tested from 10 ft, and mounted in a housing that is shield by a polycarbonate lens, lexan stencil, and thermoplastic framing. If the sign is used as intended, it poses more risk to humans from falling off the wall from improper installation, then it does being a source of radioactive contamination. This material is also used in gun sights, dials in air craft, and keychains in the UK.
Question : What colors can I chose for my Braille sign?
Answer : Greentorch offers a wide selection of colors to chose from for your Braille signage; however you must chose letters and a background that have a high dark to light contrast. You can choose a dark or light background, as long as the letters are clearly decernable. Call a Greentorch representative at 877-305-0898 if you have any questions on your Braille order.
Question : Are these Braille signs compliant in California?
Answer : Grade Two Braille is required by the state of California and used in every Greentorch Braille sign. Grade Two Braille complies with Title 24 which states specific requirements for Braille: spacing between the Braille dots must be1/10th of an inch, spacing between words must be 2/10ths of an inch, and dot must have a minimum apex of 1/40th inch. All of our Braille signs are made in the United States to ensure quality and code compliance. Greentorch Braille signs meet code in all 50 states.
Question : Where should Braille signs be placed?
Answer : Braille signs are important markers of appropriate routes of egress for the visually impaired. Braille signs for exit routes or signs that identify rooms must be placed adjacent to the door they identify. Consult your local fire inspector to ensure you have Braille signs in the appropriate locations in your facility.
