PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The PL101 is a completely non-electrical exit sign solution. The PL101 utilizes non-electrical photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology, which illuminates the word EXIT and has a UL Listed 75 foot viewing distance. The PL101 is a great choice for those looking to install an EXIT sign where there currently is no electricity. The cost to run electrical conduit is expensive, and the PL101 avoids this hassle while insuring fire and building code compliance. Eliminate your dependence on electricity for your exit signs with the PL101. The PL101 installs easily with ceiling, flush, side, t-bar, and low location mounting frames and hardware. The PL101 has an expected, maintenance-free life of 25 years.

CONSTRUCTION: The PL101 exit sign substrate is composed of photoluminescent self-extinguishing PVC. The PL101’s sign frame is aluminum.

ILLUMINATION: Non-electrical photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark technology utilizes ambient lighting to charge and illuminates without dependence on electrical backup during an emergency. The PL101 boasts a 75 foot viewing distance with minimal maintenance during its 25+ year life expectancy. Minimum 5 foot-candle (54 lux) external unfiltered fluorescent, metal halide, or mercury vapor illumination must be present on the sign face at all times of building occupancy.

Question : How much light does the face of a photoluminescent exit sign for it to function correctly?
Answer : The face of the photoluminescent sign needs 5 foot candles, which is not a lot of light. To make sure you have 5 foot candles, take a light meter and use it in the area in which the exit sign is going to be placed. 5 foot candles of light must be on the face of the sign at all times when the building is occupied.
Question : Does light have to be on the face of the photoluminescent exit sign at all times?
Answer : Yes and No. When anyone is in the building 5 foot candles of light must be present on the sign at all times. When the building is empty the sign, by code, does not require light present on the face.
Question : How long do photoluminescent exit signs glow for?
Answer : When charged properly, photoluminescent exit signs glow for a minimum of 90 minutes; which is one qualification for their UL 924 and ETL listings. Greentorch Photoluminescent exit signs glow for 90 minutes and even longer, up to 8 hours in some cases.
Question : How do I know if this exit sign is approved for use in my city/county/state?
Answer : The UL listing (Underwriters Laboratories) for of our exit signs ensures that these signs are code compliant. UL tests our exit signs and then gives their approval. This approval comes in the form of a listing. As long as your exit sign is UL listed it will work for your jurisdiction. Two exceptions exist: New York City and Chicago, which have their own exit sign specifications in addition to the UL listing.

Our products typically carry a 5 year warranty though on certain items the warranty is longer. All products are guaranteed to be new, and free from defect. Batteries carry a 5 year prorated warranty.
