PRODUCT OVERVIEW:

Greentorch PLR Series photoluminescent exit signs are an aesthetically appealing, non-electrical exit sign choice for use in all types of commercial buildings. Photoluminescent exit signs utilize glow-in-the-dark technology by absorbing ambient light and then glowing in dark conditions. The PLR, along with all Greentorch photoluminescent exit signs is UL924 Listed and code compliant in the United States and Canada. The PLR series utilizes a Super Charged Photoluminescent (SCPL) cast base that is unparalleled in reliability and illumination power. The optically clear polycarbonate face cover provides a UL 94 VO fire rating and glossy look.

Easy to install, all signs come with an aluminum frame giving sign a rich and complete “high end” finish that complements any architectural design. The frame is available in standard colors of brushed aluminum or black. The frame color can also be matched to the face color of the frame. The PLR series can be configured in both single and double-sided versions and has back, side, and top mounting capabilities. Installing PLR Series exit signs is cost effective and eco friendly because they reduce construction costs, energy consumption, and lower maintenance costs. The 25-year lifespan and non-electrical technology enables the PLR to be a long-term, reliable, and eco-friendly exit sign solution.

CONSTRUCTION: This exit sign measures 14 inches (no arrows) and 17 inches (arrows/arrow kit) wide by 8 1/4 inches high, is 3/4-inch deep for a single-face sign and 1/2 inches deep for a double-face sign, and consists of a 0.125-inch-thick layer of photoluminescent material impregnated by extrusion or injection molding, on a 0.125-inch-thick layer of polycarbonate substrate, which has a V0 fire rating. The word “EXIT” is screened onto the polycarbonate substrate to protect the lettering from being scratched from the sign face. The PLR is available in green, red, or black face colors.

ILLUMINATION: Non-electrical photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark technology utilizes ambient lighting to charge and illuminates without dependence on electrical backup during an emergency. The PLR has a UL Listed 50 foot viewing distance with minimal maintenance during its 25+ year life expectancy. Minimum 5 foot-candle (54 lux) external unfiltered fluorescent, metal halide, or mercury vapor illumination must be present on the sign face at all times of building occupancy.

Letter Size: 6” letters with 3/4” stroke
Directional Indicators: Infield applicable chevron arrows sized to meet UL visibility requirements.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: No battery needed, the PLR is completely non-electrical.

INSTALLATION: The signs are supplied with an aluminum frame, polycarbonate cover, and brackets for wall mounting. Optional top/ceiling mounting is available. The signs can be securely mounted using the four screw holes provided.

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS: The PLR is non-electrical.

CODE COMPLIANCE: The PLR is UL924 Listed and compliant with a wide range of codes and standards including the following: DIN 67510-1, ISO/CD 15370, ASTM 162, ASTM 662, ASTM E 2072-00, NFPA Life Safety Code 101, ICC, IBC, 1998 California Building Code and Fire Code.

PHOTOLUMINESCENT QUALITIES:Non-electrical, non-radioactive, explosion proof, UV-stable, durable, minimal installation or maintenance expenses.

Question : Are non-electrical signs bright enough?
Answer : Both Tritium and Photoluminescent Exit signs are subject to visibility tests at UL. Signs bearing the UL listed mark meet or exceed the minimum requirements as set forth by UL, which are accepted by NFPA 101 Life Safety and are accepted by building codes including IBC. They are bright enough to pass the visibility tests. Are they bright enough to see through a smoke filled room? No sign is able to been seen through smoke, including electrical signs. In order to achieve a safe exit passage in smokey situations, low level exit signs are required.
Question : How much light does the face of a photoluminescent exit sign for it to function correctly?
Answer : The face of the photoluminescent sign needs 5 foot candles, which is not a lot of light. To make sure you have 5 foot candles, take a light meter and use it in the area in which the exit sign is going to be placed. 5 foot candles of light must be on the face of the sign at all times when the building is occupied.
Question : Does light have to be on the face of the photoluminescent exit sign at all times?
Answer : Yes and No. When anyone is in the building 5 foot candles of light must be present on the sign at all times. When the building is empty the sign, by code, does not require light present on the face.
Question : How long do photoluminescent exit signs glow for?
Answer : When charged properly, photoluminescent exit signs glow for a minimum of 90 minutes; which is one qualification for their UL 924 and ETL listings. Greentorch Photoluminescent exit signs glow for 90 minutes and even longer, up to 8 hours in some cases.
