PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The Greentorch SLE Series Self Luminous Exit Sign is an innovative non-electrical solution for exit signs. Completely self luminous, SLE Tritium exit signs consume no electricity and illuminate continuously for 10 to 20 years, depending on the model. SLE signs require no wiring or maintenance and are suitable for ceiling level or low level applications. SLE signs are perfect for installations where electricity is not available, as they eliminate the need to hire an electrician and run conduit. Since they are non-electrical they can be installed both indoors and out, including extreme environments such as freezing temperatures.
SLE self-luminous exit signs utilize tritium gas, which naturally glows green with no need for electricity, batteries, or any other power source. The tritium is sealed into shatterproof borosilicate glass tubes and encased behind a .25" polycarbonate shield and finished with a white or black thermoplastic frame. Choose a face color, that surrounds the green glowing letters, of white, black, red, or green. The SLE is UL 924 Listed and code compliant for the United States and Canada. This model features a 125-foot UL Listed viewing distance. Directional arrows are in-field applicable.

CONSTRUCTION: SLE Series Exit Signs are constructed of UV stable, impact resistant ABS thermoplastic with a choice of red, green, black, or white face color with white or black frame color. The mounting bracket supplied with all SLE models is constructed of aluminum and finished to match the frame color.

ILLUMINATION: Tritium gas tubes glow continuously without the need for external power for 10-20 years, depending on the model. Letter brightness meets UL requirements for self-luminous exit signs. 125 foot UL Listed viewing distance.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: The SLE is self-luminous and requires no battery , meaning much less maintenance over the service life of the product.

INSTALLATION: Wall Mounting: Single face models are supplied with keyhole slots in the exit housing’s back plate for attachment to wall surfaces.
Ceiling/End Mounting: An aluminum mounting bracket is provided with all models for attachment to ceiling or wall surfaces.

ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS: This sign is non-electrical, therefore it can be used in wet-locations, dust, vaporous, and other areas where electrical units would require proper gasketing.

CODE COMPLIANCE: Listed to UL 924, NFPA Life Safety Code 101, and British standard 5499 PT2. Meets NEC Article 500, Class 1, 11, and 111 conditions.

PHOTOLUMINESCENT QUALITIES:None , SLE Series Exit Signs do not utilize photoluminescent technology.


Question : How do I configure the arrows for my sign?
Answer : Many signs come with the ability to set the arrows to your preference at the time of installation. This is called 'infield' applicable arrows. Almost all signs come with field applicable arrows. Here is how they differ. thermoplastic signs have pop-out arrows that can be removed or added to your choice. Cast-Aluminum signs have knock-outs. knock-outs are where we indent the back side of the face plate with a cut in the shape of arrows requiring the tap of a screw driver or hammer to 'knock' them all the way out. It is difficult to add back knocked-out arrows because the seams are exposed. It can be done, but it looks nicer when you are accurate. Self-luminous and photoluminescent signs use stencils and/or adhesive arrows. The adhesive arrows can only be applied once. You can remove them after application but the y are designed for permanent adhesion. The stencils can be popped out. Edge-lit exit signs can have the arrows pre-specified, adhesive, or static. Our signs use either static or pre-configured in general, as the panels for edge-lits are prone to smudges and fingerprints. Our signs look great because our chevrons are designed for easy and clean installation, minus the smudges.
Question : How do I know if this exit sign is approved for use in my city/county/state?
Answer : The UL listing (Underwriters Laboratories) for of our exit signs ensures that these signs are code compliant. UL tests our exit signs and then gives their approval. This approval comes in the form of a listing. As long as your exit sign is UL listed it will work for your jurisdiction. Two exceptions exist: New York City and Chicago, which have their own exit sign specifications in addition to the UL listing.

Question : Are non-electrical signs bright enough?
Answer : Both Tritium and Photoluminescent Exit signs are subject to visibility tests at UL. Signs bearing the UL listed mark meet or exceed the minimum requirements as set forth by UL, which are accepted by NFPA 101 Life Safety and are accepted by building codes including IBC. They are bright enough to pass the visibility tests. Are they bright enough to see through a smoke filled room? No sign is able to been seen through smoke, including electrical signs. In order to achieve a safe exit passage in smokey situations, low level exit signs are required.
Question : Is Tritium Dangerous and can I have them in my facility? What happens if the sign gets broken?
Answer : This is a common question. I suppose any object can be dangerous depending on how far from you deviate from its intended and recommended use. If the nature of your question is to determine risk to health, then consider that the tritium is an extremely low level radioactive device. The radioactivity is so low that the decaying betarays could not penetrate a standard piece of paper. The material in our exit signs are in a gas form, sealed within borosillicate tubes, and housed in a tray that is dropped tested from 10 ft, and mounted in a housing that is shield by a polycarbonate lens, lexan stencil, and thermoplastic framing. If the sign is used as intended, it poses more risk to humans from falling off the wall from improper installation, then it does being a source of radioactive contamination. This material is also used in gun sights, dials in air craft, and keychains in the UK.
