PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The XWL Series Exit Sign is a rugged and durable exit sign suitable for wet areas. The XWL features a NEMA 4X rated corrosion resistant polycarbonate enclosure that seals out moisture, dust, and other elements. The word EXIT is illuminated by high output, energy efficient red or green LED lamps. The XWL comes in AC only and battery backup models. The battery backup provides 90 minutes of emergency support after AC power is lost. For battery backup models installed in environments where temperatures drop below 32º F, a battery heater will need to be added on to insure functionality in freezing environments. The XWL features back, top, and flush mounting capabilities. The XWL can be configured for both single and double sided applications.

CONSTRUCTION: Corrosion resistant NEMA 4X type sealed and gasketed enclosure in industrial gray polycarbonate with clear polycarbonate cover. Energy efficient LEDs are available in red and green.

ILLUMINATION: The face of the XWL is illuminated by special high intensity, indirect red or green LED panels. Letter brightness and illumination uniformity exceed UL requirements. LED lamps last for estimated average 8-10 years.

BATTERY TECHNOLOGY: Available with Sealed Nickel Cadmium maintenance free battery, designed to provide many years of dependable service.

INSTALLATION: Units are designed for wall, top, or back installations surfaces by means of four knockout holes provided in the enclosure housing. Wiring knockouts are provided on both sides of the enclosure for attachment of surface wiring or conduit.

Question : How do I configure the arrows for my sign?
Answer : Many signs come with the ability to set the arrows to your preference at the time of installation. This is called 'infield' applicable arrows. Almost all signs come with field applicable arrows. Here is how they differ. thermoplastic signs have pop-out arrows that can be removed or added to your choice. Cast-Aluminum signs have knock-outs. knock-outs are where we indent the back side of the face plate with a cut in the shape of arrows requiring the tap of a screw driver or hammer to 'knock' them all the way out. It is difficult to add back knocked-out arrows because the seams are exposed. It can be done, but it looks nicer when you are accurate. Self-luminous and photoluminescent signs use stencils and/or adhesive arrows. The adhesive arrows can only be applied once. You can remove them after application but the y are designed for permanent adhesion. The stencils can be popped out. Edge-lit exit signs can have the arrows pre-specified, adhesive, or static. Our signs use either static or pre-configured in general, as the panels for edge-lits are prone to smudges and fingerprints. Our signs look great because our chevrons are designed for easy and clean installation, minus the smudges.
Question : How do I know if this exit sign is approved for use in my city/county/state?
Answer : The UL listing (Underwriters Laboratories) for of our exit signs ensures that these signs are code compliant. UL tests our exit signs and then gives their approval. This approval comes in the form of a listing. As long as your exit sign is UL listed it will work for your jurisdiction. Two exceptions exist: New York City and Chicago, which have their own exit sign specifications in addition to the UL listing.
Question : What does 120/277v mean?
Answer : 120/277 refers to the line voltage that the exit sign can operate on. 120 refers to residential and small commercial line voltage while 220 refers to commercial and office building line voltage. The main point is that our exit signs will work in either situation so you don’t need to worry about the functionality. We recommend using a licensed electrician or maintenance professional to install exit signs, emergency lights and other safety egress equipment.
Question : What is and do I need the battery backup option?
Answer : The battery backup option provides emergency battery power to illuminate your exit sign or emergency light in case of a fire, earthquake, or other emergency that causes a power outage. You must have the battery backup model if you DO NOT have a generator that provides emergency power to your facility.
